Again our village is seemingly ravaged by the sea...

Thursday, 4 June 2009 04:59 by FrPanky

I am sorry for not being able to connect with our village and its seemingly present situation! It is unfortunate that i come to know of it through our friends' mails, though somehow i come into contact with our people and those from our neighbourhood.

'A friend in need is a friend indeed.' As such our people may need our help the most at such times. However, whatever we can collect and give, that won't be of much value at such times. So, i too would like to subscribe the position of Fr. Lucian. Whatever we could collect, that could be utilized for some better causes as it is the government which has to care of such emegencies.

Hope, that you all know that Fr. Russel Ignatius was transferred from our village and Fr. Gerard D has taken charge as our new Parish Priest. While welcoming the new Parish Priest with all enthusiasm and much hope, let us not forget to thank Fr. Russel for his service to our village for the past few years and wish him well in his future ministry wherever he is. The new Parish Priest is from Adimalathurai and presently he is coming from the Parish of Kochuthura near Puthiyathura.

Let us work together with this new Priest for the welfare and development of our village and the preservation of our culture, heritage and history.

I am trying to enlist some of our friends here to contribute to the website and otherwise.

GREAT GREAT GREAT News!

Sunday, 26 April 2009 07:36 by FrPanky

I am very glad and elated to share the happy news recently published
in prestigious "Science" magazine.

The Great research finding is says the most ancient human civilization
2500 BC at Indus Valley used the Script closely resembles the
Dravidian language TAMIL.

So we are all proud to born and live with TAMIL language.

I would like to emphasis the two following paragraphs from the Article:

"Moreover, this conditional entropy appears to be most similar to
Sumerian (a logo-syllabic script roughly contemporaneous with the
Indus script) and Old Tamil (an alpha-syllabic script), and falls
between those for English words and English characters."

"The similarity in conditional entropy to Old Tamil, a Dravidian
language, is especially interesting in light of the fact that many of
the prominent decipherment efforts to date (9–11) have converged upon
a proto-Dravidian hypothesis for the Indus script."

Please find the historic Publication dated April 23, 2009 in attachment file.

A village at the mercy of nature...

Thursday, 2 April 2009 05:57 by FrPanky

I am horrified at seeing the pictures of our village! We are living in constant danger of the sea, rather we are living at the lap of the sea waves which are washing off our houses and properties, besides the threat of flood any time when there is torrential rains during monsoon. The only 'protection' is the thin layer of dilapidated sea-wall which is good for nothing!

The government of India has a regulatory law known as the CRZ, Coastal Regulatory Zone or so! It prescribes that all settlements have to be away from a minimum of 500 metres! And the paradox is that our entire village doesn't have that much width! And what are we going to do? Do we really believe that the government would do anything to protect us and our village? Goverment means beaurocracy and politicians! And they don't stand to loose anything if they haven't done anything for us; nor are they going to gain anything if they do something solid for us! This is not to loose courage; but to be realistic and try accordingly to save our village and our lives.

In this context, we need the co-operation and active support of our neighbours to move the above said people in authority, as by ourselves we won't be able to exert enough pressure on them. And we can't afford to have any  of them as our enemies, especially our immediate neighbours. We need to move the local government bodies like the Panchayat, the Panchayat Union and other Revenue authorities concerned and the people's representatives like the MLA and MP besides the political big shots with the help of these friendly neighbours, if needed even with the people across the river and canal.

Also, as well said by some of our friends, we need to bring our percarious situation to the attetion of the media, both print and electronic and thereby to the general public. They be made to bring out a feature on our village and the constant dangers it faces through out the year. For this we may approach some reputed papers like 'The Hindu', 'Dinamalar', TVs like 'Sun TV' and so on. We can also take a documentary of our own and make the media people, both private and public, to telecast it.

Government may be interested, if they have some economic benefit when they invest that much money to save our bit of land. This may be possible, if the much talked about 'Fishing Harbour' Project takes off. Whatever it be, we need to work hard knowing our limitaions and weaknesses, and succeed to survive as a village. Anyhow, it is not impossible a task, if only we are determined and resolute. Let us stand united and do our best and be victorious.

Save Lives from Sea Erosion

Wednesday, 25 March 2009 06:32 by admin

Dear All Residents and well- wishes of Erayumanthurai Christian Community.

Greetings,

Hereby put forth for your kind information that I had been to our locality Erayumanthurai recently. There I have witnessed the devastation and destruction of some houses located beside the sea. The mammoth waves caused immense loss of property and houses. The people were sleepless fearing the sea though it happened much earlier to May,June,Jul(Aani, Aadi kadal adippu). The sea water was flowing through the lanes to the river.Sometimes,it created a scenario putting the existence of our village into a question mark. Meantime, our people are forced to do some rectifying and life saving measures; and they made a temporary committee. After due consultation, it was resolved that to form at least a sandbag – filled wall where the current sea wall  has gone much irresistible and much below the ground level.  The approximately cost of the wall will be about RS .1.5 Million. As Lobithas mentioned early, the general election is nearing, the government is helpless to do anything for next 2,3 months. So we have to act swiftly thinking of our own village and the people contributing the maximum for really a good cause will make us pride. Apart from this, there are some societies anticipated to help us .

Being a native of our holy land, I wish that we will join together and contribute to one affordability.

Please forward the mail those are not copied and pass the message to non email communication friends..

Thanking You

Shaji

(S/o. Joseph Antony)
